Service Projects
El Paso Downtown Lions Club
The Sun Bowl is one of our nation’s most enduring football traditions.  Only
the Rose Bowl, established in 1923, is older. In 1938, when the Sun Bowl
Commission sought to create a trophy for annual presentation to the winning
team, it was the Service Clubs of El Paso who jointly donated the funds to
design and build the Trophy. The four contributing service clubs were:  The
Downtown Lions, Optimist, Kiwanis and Rotary.

The El Paso Downtown Lions Club has played a continuously active role in
the operation of the Sun Carnival Parade and has faithfully built and entered
a float in the Parade every year since 1938, often winning top honors in the
judging!
